Decorating Ideas For January And February
After the Christmas season, we often yank all of our cozy colourful decor down, toss it in boxes, and leave the house bare and stark feeling. I like to keep the coziness of the season evident in my home's decor after Christmas - without the obvious festive themes. Are you looking for some comfy and beautiful post-Christmas winter decor ideas for your own home? Here are some tips that I love using at our house!
Keep Some of the Greenery Out
Don't pack up your bottle brush trees or garlands just yet! When they're stripped bare of obviously Christmas-y extras (like red ornaments or glittery things), greenery can look great as decor in the winter months. I chose to leave the trees on our mantel up, and I took down the stockings and jingle bell banner.
Think White and Bright
Not only is Simply White Benjamin Moore's colour of the year, but it's also a great colour to use right after Christmas when you want your decor to feel fresh and bright - like how your outlook on the new year is! I switched my drapes back to my favourite turquoise florals with the bright white background. (Excuse the slightly messy, everyday kitchen photo... Baby B is studying her Lego manual here.)
Keep The Cozy Textiles Out
In January, it just feels right to keep all of your furry, chunky throws and pillows out to add some comfort and coziness to the cold month. I love how a sheepskin rug looks draped over my Davina sofa from The Brick. The white breaks up the beautiful deep charcoal of our new sofas and the furry texture of the rug contrasts so well with the smooth texture of the sofa.
Add Bare Branch and Birch Wood Accents
These little birch wood candles were a find at a grocery store a few years ago and I love how they look in the winter in my barnwood box centerpiece! Bark and bare branches are beautiful decor accents that are very wintery and rustic looking. Think about using things like birch wood inspired candles, bare branches in a jar or vase, forest-inspired artwork or a stack of birch logs by the fireplace in your decor.
Add A Pop of Cool Colour
Don't be afraid to add some colour into your winter decor after Christmas. Neutrals can be a nice switch post-holiday, but I personally love a splash of cool colour (like colours in the blue family) in January. The mix of the cool colour plus white reminds me of a frosty wonderland and the pop of colour adds some life into my decor.

Some Winter Decor Accessories I Love:
This textured white bedding set is just calling my name! It's the perfect winter white colour. (This is 25% off right now, and so are all of The Brick's decorative accessories, lamps, area rugs and bed linens!)
This beautiful warm blue and silver-white forest painting would look so pretty in my January decor.
Shag area rugs are so furry and soft underfoot for the colder months! I'm adoring this super-soft pure white area rug from The Brick.
How do YOU decorate in January? Do you like your house fresh and bare or do you pop in some extra decor and a pop of colour?
